As the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race celebrates its 75th Anniversary, Old Kempton Distillery have chosen to commemorate this occasion with two hand-crafted Limited-Edition Collection Whisky Releases.
Both Releases will make the journey from Hobart to Sydney return aboard Magic Miles which left Hobart earlier this week.
The barrels have been produced in Tasmania exclusively for this momentous event. Using Tasmanian barley, double distilled through our copper pot stills and patiently matured in small oak casks, these releases promise to be of rich, balanced and unique flavour after their 1,260-nautical-mile journey.
Our “Commodore’s Release” is full of stewed dark fruits with elements of spice on the nose. Lovely, light with enticing almond notes and oily mouthfeel. A warm and satisfying whisky that will leave you wanting more.
Our “Captain’s Release” has been so named for its big bold nose with underlying berry sweetness. A palate of cherries and dark chocolate with rounded and creamy mouthfeel. Ending with a long lingering finish that will not be forgotten in a hurry.
With only 75 bottles from each release, the bottles will be sold on a “first-in, best-dressed” basis for $475. Competitors have been emailed a link and password which will give access to the private webpage. For every bottle sold a 5% donation will be made to CYCA’s Safety of Life at Sea Trusts. Bottle sales will be limited to one per entered yacht.
Please note that bottles #1 and #75 from each release have been reserved by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia and the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania respectively. Bottle #1 of the “Commodore’s Release” was sold for a charity at CYCA auction last week for $1,500!

When Magic Miles arrives safely back at Hobart the Whisky will be transferred back to Old Kempton Distillery where it will be bottled, labelled and sent out to your chosen address. We can only post to Australian addresses.
