CYCA Market Day

The hardstand took on a new role on Sunday and abounded with smiling faces at Market Day organised by the Associates Committee. There was something for everyone, whether looking for bargains, passing on treasures or just browsing, catching up with other Members and enjoying a ‘bun on the run’ from the wonderful Breakfast Club Team. Thanks to everyone who came down and made it a great day.

There were 16 stalls providing a huge range of products and promoting lots of good causes.

Many Members used the opportunity to clear out their garages of no-longer-needed boat bits which ranged from radios, ovens, dinghies, winches, ropes and a few household items and lots of books thrown in. Those looking for clothes had plenty to choose from with bargains from Musto, Boat Crew Gear and Lynne’s tie-dying store, which also offered the fun of tie-dying group workshops. Stem was there with a range of items made from old sails including bean bags, carry bags, door stops and deck chairs. And Smartfitz were there displaying their no strap roof racks.

This year’s Market Day also included a number of not-for-profit stalls whose aim was to raise funds as well as awareness. Sailors with disABILITIES were there and many PFDs proudly marked ‘SWD’ left with new owners. The CYCA Sustainability Working Group had a stall promoting re-use of no longer needed items that went, for the donation of a gold coin, to a new home and they also raised around $500 for CYCA’s Saftey of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Trusts. CYCA Archives were also selling items to raise funds for SOLAS. Shake it Up was selling golf balls to raise money and awareness for Parkinson’s disease research and they were also promoting their project of getting all entries in this years Sydney to Hobart to make a donation and fly the flag for Parkinson’s.

Thank you’s go out to many for making it a successful day.

To Musto, CYCA and Boat Crew Gear who generously donated the prizes for the raffle, the proceeds of which will go towards the Children’s Christmas party to be held on Sunday 1st December.  Winners were:  1st: Sarah Crawford; 2nd Kendi Kellet; 3rd Carol Briggs.

Thanks to the wonderful CYCA team, lead by Marina, Nick and Mani, who worked tirelessly putting up and positioning the marquees and tables, and then dismounting them at the end of the day.

Thanks also to the Breakfast team and to the Associates Committee, Bronwyn, the coordinator of the event and the other Associates Committee Members: Pam, Kaye, Fiona, Kendi, Jen, Pam, Jane and Cathie, whose great teamwork ensured another successful Associates event.
