Cockatoo Island Tour

The CYCA’s Cruising Committee organised a tour of Cockatoo Island on Saturday 8 July.

The event was a sell-out, with Members and guests enjoying a fascinating tour of the Island.

Organiser John Keelty, a member of the Cruising Committee, reflects on a great day out.

The sun shone on the CYCA group that visited Cockatoo Island on Saturday. What a spectacular spot.

We had the choice of doing tours or just wandering the island.  We all did a bit of both. The tours were excellent and took in the UNESCO World Heritage convict site.

Our tour guide was wonderful, she took us at a leisurely pace, adding lots of colourful anecdotes about those who had lived and worked on the island.  Christine, who runs the Cockatoo Café, set a table for the whole group out of the wind where we had lunch, enjoying both the company and the harbour views.

There is so much to see on the Island that most, if not all, have indicated they will be back for a second visit.  If you haven’t been, we thoroughly recommend you add it to your “To Do” list.
