The second annual Women’s Training Program (WTP) was completed over the weekend with twenty participants registering for the 2024 program which saw a combination of both on and off water training as well as racing. The three-day course consisted of training drills, theory sessions on Friday & Saturday, followed by two teams competing in Race 5 of the Sydney Harbour Women’s Keelboat Series on Sunday.
Sailed on the Club’s fleet of Elliott 7m keelboats, and with instructors from the CYCA Youth Sailing Academy on board each boat, participants were able to get instant feedback and coaching with all sailors were able to enhance their capabilities, build confidence in a safe and welcoming environment and develop skills on the water.
Whilst conditions were mostly light over the first two days, the sailors enjoyed a near perfect race day on Sunday. After a short postponement, the final race of the Sydney Harbour Women’s Keelboat Series, hosted by Manly Yacht Club, got underway at approx. 1300hrs for the 24 yachts competing in Division 2. The building 6 – 10 knot easterly breeze provided ideal conditions for the two teams competing as they put into practice the skills and lessons learned over the previous days.
