YSA alumni Olivia Price and Evie Haseldine finished 10th Overall in the 49erFX Class after the Medal Race at the Olympic Test Event in Marseille. CYCA Honorary Member Matt Wearn OAM, won gold in the ILCA7 event.

After a strong start to the campaign, Olivia and Evie were in fifth spot at the end of day one, but were overtaken the next day of racing, unable to replicate their efforts. However, the team maintained their position in the top ten and after a strong comeback performance in day three placing 7th overall in the division.

After the Match Race, Olivia commented, “We have learned a lot, finding things to improve upon, and enjoyed the opportunity to be part of the Test Event team. The impending World Championships are going to be a lot of fun and great racing. It’s also where we have the chance at qualifying the country (for the Olympics), so it’s a big milestone to tick off.”

In a dramatic final to the ILCA 7 class, Wearn and Beckett (GBR) exchanged the lead four times before Beckett took a nine point lead, however, in the medal race, with an unstable breeze, Wearn seized the opportunity and won the race to clinch the gold.

The Australian athletes will return for the 2023 Allianz Sailing World Championships, where racing will run from 11-20 August in The Hague, The Netherlands.
