Summer Offshore Series returns with Bass Island Race

The 2022 Summer Offshore Series begins on Saturday 5 February, with the 90 nautical mile Bass Island Race.

Following a successful inaugural edition in 2021, the three-race series returns to give crews an early start to their offshore campaigns for the year.

The Bass Island Race has replaced the Flinders Islet Race as the series opener, followed by the 100 nautical mile Virtual Mark Race and the 320 nautical mile Montague Island Race (which replaces the Sydney Newcastle Race from the 2021 schedule).

Twelve boats are entered for the 2022 Summer Offshore Series, including five two-handed crews: Mark Gorbatov & Mark Siebert’s Beneteau First 40 Blink, Michael Rowe’s Mumm 36 Corum, Jules Hall’s J/99 Disko Trooper_Contender Sailcloth (co-skippered by Jan Scholten), Mark Ayto’s BH36 Local Hero (co-skippered by Anto Sweetapple), David Henry’s Sydney 36 Cruiser Philosopher, Kevin Whelan’s Beneteau 45F5 Reve, Andrew Butler’s J122e Rumchaser (co-skippered by Jason Antill), Peter Franki’s Sydney 36 Salt Shaker (co-skippered by Mark Lewkovitz), Seb Bohm’s TP52 Smuggler, Speedwell (Colin Geeves’ Beneteau 34.7, co-skippered by Campbell Geeves and Wendy Tuck), David Griffith’s JV62 Whisper, and Ian Edwards’ Dehler 46 Wings.

Disko Trooper_Contender Sailcloth, the overall winner of the Two-Handed Division in the 2021 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, will begin her campaign with the Virtual Mark Race, while Les Goodridge’s X50 Wax Lyrical will contest the Montague Island Race.
