Vamp, Star Ferry, Wax Lyrical and Zara were all victorious in Race 2 of the CYCA Women’s Winter Series.
After light conditions in Race 1 – and for much of the Winter Series – a westerly of up to 15 knots provided some competitive racing across the 42-strong fleet.
Vamp, skippered by CYCA Past Director Leander Klohs, continued her impressive recent form.
Vamp had won two of her past three Winter Series races and backed that up with a victory in Non-Spinnaker Division 1.
The Corby 49 started from the back of the pack, but closed in for a comfortable win to move atop the overall pointscore standings, having finished third in Race 1.
Leander believes there is plenty of momentum on board Vamp.
“We’re starting to gel as a crew and we’re trying some different sail combinations. I think the weather has also been our kind of weather,” she said.
“I’m not an experienced helmsperson, so it’s great to be able to get out there and get a bit of experience under my belt.
“The crew were very good at supporting me. They were calm, they were collected and they gave me good advice, which was great.”
Love Byte (Chelsea Owensby) and Wild West (Jenni Hayward) claimed their first podium finishes of the series, second and third respectively.
Star Ferry edged out Krakatoa in a thrilling finish to take Non-Spinnaker Division 2 honours.
Star Ferry, skippered by Alexandra Conroy, held off the fast-finishing Krakatoa (Janet Whitfeld) to win by a margin of just 14 seconds.
Beth Morley guided Salona to third place, with Star Ferry now two points clear atop the overall standings.
In her first ever race at the helm, Francesca Leverkus led Wax Lyrical to victory in Spinnaker Division 1.
The X50 chased down second-placed Bliss (Judy Bergman) and third-placed Blink (Cathy Pak Poy) to take the overall lead on six points.
Despite having a fractured ankle, Francesca enjoyed a successful debut as skipper.
“It was good to have a bit more wind than we’ve had recently in the Winter Series,” she said.
“I’ve sailed for a few years with this crew, so it was really good to get the win together.
“We wanted to do well. Wax Lyrical has a really good track record of having women on the boat and women helming and doing well, so I didn’t want to let the other ladies down.”
Zara won Spinnaker Division 2, with Theresa Seargent at the helm.
The 47ft Ketch finished more than 90 seconds clear to move level on six points with second-placed Pacatack (Wendy Tuck).
Wild Oats, skippered by Marike Koppenol, holds the overall divisional lead after provisionally finishing in third-place, from Rumba (Stephanie Cook).
