Peter Shipway chosen to join The Admiral’s Cup 2025 Advisory Committee

Following the announcement earlier this year that the biennial Admiral’s Cup would make a long-anticipated return to the world sailing calendar in 2025 after a 22-year hiatus, the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia expressed its interest to be involved once again with this prestigious event which was established in the UK in 1957 and is organized by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC).

Soon after the CYCA formed a working group led by CYCA Life Member Peter Shipway who had previously competed in eight previous Admiral’s Cups. Commodore Arthur Lane added: “The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia is extremely excited at the prospect to be closely involved with this significant racing event that has such a deep connection to our Club and sailing community. The Admiral’s Cup is an important part of our rich history and has helped shape our identity over the years – we look forward to being involved and supporting it again in any capacity that we can”.

Earlier today, Monday 12 February 2024, the Admiral’s Cup officially announced its Advisory Committee, which includes Peter Shipway, Life Member of the CYCA. We could not think of a better person to represent our Club on this grand stage.

“The primary purpose of the Admiral’s Cup 2025 Advisory Committee is to provide advice and guidance to RORC’s Race Management Team on delivering an interesting, varied and attractive regatta,” commented RORC CEO Jeremy Wilton. “The Committee will focus on ensuring that participants enjoy a memorable world class event to a standard which befits the prestige of the Admiral’s Cup.”

The Admiral’s Cup 2025 Advisory Committee has been chosen with Andrew McIrvine as Chairman. “The Admiral’s Cup Advisory Committee will cast the net as wide as possible internationally for wisdom and advice to bring back the Cup successfully to its former glory. We encourage teams to come forward to be part of the ongoing discussions.” commented Andrew McIrvine. “Our goal for the future is to re-establish The Admiral’s Cup as the premier event for inshore and offshore yacht racing.”
