CYCA Members and community Clean Up!

On Sunday 1 March the CYCA participated in Clean Up Australia Day, in an effort to keep our Club and its surrounds beautiful!

Approximately 20 people, comprising CYCA Members and the local community, participated in the day, collecting rubbish from around the vicinity of the Club.

A significant amount of waste, rubbish and peripheral materials were collected by the group – items that would have otherwise ended in the waterways and across Sydney Harbour.

On land, the group collected more than 750 cigarette butts that were disposed around the perimeter of the Club.

The group found it was interesting to find significant amounts of plastic waste floating around the marina, which while not necessarily attributable to the Club, highlighting the fact that the issue of waste management and effective disposal impacts us all.

CYCA has a strong connection with Clean Up Australia with the initiative being started by past Member Ian Kiernan AO.

While this is only a once-a-year event it helps to raise awareness of the impacts of rubbish waste, and as sailors, we all want to highlight the impact of pollutants, and particularly plastic, on the ocean environment.

The Club will continue to participate in Clean Up Australia in the years to come.

Thanks to all those who lent a pair and showed they care!
