The CYCA has secured a spot at the 56th Governor’s Cup at Balboa Yacht Club in California, with Cole Tapper named as skipper of the Youth Sailing Academy team.
Cole will return to the Governor’s Cup for the second consecutive year, having been joined by his brother Finn and George Richardson to finish in fifth place last year.
The Governor’s Cup is considered the America’s Cup equivalent for youth sailors, and a pathway for future champions in the sport.
Previous CYCA winners include Harry Price, who took out the cup in 2015 and 2018, and Seve Jarvin who won in 2003.
The 2023 Governor’s Cup International Youth Match Racing Championship will be held from July 24-29.
