37th America’s Cup in Barcelona & first, Women’s America’s Cup

This week Spanish fashion and beauty conglomerate Puig announced its partnership with the 37th America’s Cup, as both a Global Partner and the official naming partner of the inaugural Women’s America’s Cup.

Creating an electrifying pathway to the America’s Cup itself, the Youth & Puig Women’s America’s Cup events are set to be some of the highlights of AC37 in Barcelona starting in August 2024.

This exciting event, last took place in March 2021 and is set to attract the next generation of foiling superstars, who will have the perfect platform to showcase their talents to the world in Spain.  Racing in the 37th America’s Cup Match itself, which is a best of 13 (first to seven) format and it will start on Saturday 12th October 2024 and could run all the way to the 27th October (should all the races be needed to pick a winner).

The high profile announcement took place at the Real Club Nautico de Barcelona, with Coach Monica Azón revealing the teams. Alongside the established six America’s Cup teams, a further six entries have been received from Spain, the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Sweden and Australia with all the teams undertaking extensive selection trials to uncover future talent.

There is no fixed schedule for the America’s Cup, but the races have generally been held every three to four years since inception. The most recent America’s Cup match took place in March 2021. The cup was originally known as the ‘R.Y.S’.

Puig’s collaboration with the America’s Cup holds special significance, reflecting its local identity as a Barcelona-based company, a rich maritime sporting heritage, and global footprint.

In 2008, Puig embarked on a new challenge with the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona organizing the Puig Vela Clàssica Barcelona regatta. This international event reserved for classic and vintage boats, grew out of a desire to revive the stylish spirit and tradition of classic sailing in the city.

The Puig portfolio includes large fashion houses like Nina Ricci as well as brands like Penhaligon’s, as well as the beauty licenses of Comme des Garçons Parfums, Christian Louboutin, Benetton, Antonio Banderas and Adolfo Dominguez, among others.

To say that Puig had a busy 2022 so far would be a bit of an understatement, to say the least. Following its acquisition of Byredo, the Spanish conglomerate is also rumored to be in talks with French luxury label Jacquemus.

This summer when you are visiting Europe, don’t forget to pop in and visit the Real Club Nautico de Barcelona. One of the oldest yacht clubs in Spain, it is beautiful club internationally renowned for its great, competitive sailing.

Together with the fashion and fragrance brand Puig, they still host the Puig Vela Clàssica regatta each July, which is regarded as one of the best of its kind worldwide.
