CYCA teams in the mix after opening day of 2022 Governor’s Cup

The two CYCA teams – led by Cole Tapper and Will Sargent – claimed four wins apiece on the opening day of the 2022 Governor’s Cup in California.

Cole (with crew Finn Tapper and George Richardson) was the only skipper to defeat Youth Match Racing World Champion Jeffrey Peterson (USA).

He also won the all-CYCA race and beat Robbie McCutcheon (NZ) and Porter Kavle (USA), losing to Jordan Stevenson (NZ), Marius Westerlind (SWE) and Ansgar Jordan (USA).

Will (alongside crew Jack Littlechild and Nathan Gulliksen) also won four of his seven races.

The CYCA team beat McCutcheon, Westerlind, Kavle and fellow Aussie Marcello Torre, losing to Jordan, Tapper and Morgan Pinkcney (USA).

The double round-robin will see every team sail against each other twice, with the four teams with the most points advancing to the semi-finals.

Cole and Will are currently two points behind the leader, Petersen, with Westerlind and Torre tied on five points.
