Members and guests were given expert insight into East Coast Lows (ECLs) and the associated risks, thanks to a presentation by Hugh McDowell, Severe Weather Meteorologist at the Bureau of Meteorology.

Hugh has been a Meteorologist for more than a decade, joining BoM in 2020 after 10 years with the UK’s Met Office.

He discussed the difficulties around forecasting ECLs, the similarities to tropical cyclones and the proposed text to be introduced into Ocean Wind Warnings.
