CYCA Member Tim Ryan’s Vamos continued to impress on the world stage, finishing sixth at the J/70 European Championship in Hyeres, France.

Vamos was crewed by CYCA Member Rob Greenhalgh, YSA Crew Member Will Sargent and YSA Alumni Charlie Gundy.

After winning back-to-back national titles at the J/70 Australian Championship, Ryan has enjoyed a successful European campaign in the build-up to October’s J/70 World Championship.

Vamos was 12th at the Italian J/70 Cup and won the 2022 Cowes Week J/70 Short Series regatta.

Ryan and co. made a solid start to the European Championship, finishing 12th, 11th and 6th from their first three races to sit second overall.

In a strong fleet of 88 competitors, Vamos was 40th, 25th and 28th from the next three races.

But a superb win in Race 7 cemented a top 10 finish overall.

That proved to be the final race of the regatta as the last day was cancelled due to a mistral.

Vamos and Sam Haynes’ Celestial will represent Australia at the J/70 World Championship, which will be hosted by Yacht Club de Monaco from 14-22 October.
