CYCA welcomes strong interest for inaugural Trans-Tasman Yacht Race

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia has welcomed widespread interest from ocean racing competitors to its proposed Trans-Tasman Yacht Race, which would commence in 2025.

In less than two weeks, the Club has received expressions of interest from more than 30 boats indicating their desire to compete in a biennial Category 1 yacht race from Sydney to Auckland.

This includes a diverse range of boats – two-handers, large racer/cruisers, TP52s and other racing yachts.

The CYCA continues to explore the feasibility of conducting the Trans-Tasman Yacht Race and is engaged in positive discussions with competitors, sponsors and prospective finishing partners in New Zealand. The potential to hold a staggered start is also being discussed.

The 1,165nm Trans-Tasman Yacht Race is set to become a highlight of the Australian and New Zealand offshore racing calendars.

Expressions of interest will remain open until Friday 7 October 2022.

Competitors may contact the Sailing Office if they have any questions or require any further information.
