With winter squads on a break until May, the CYCA’s youth sailors are taking every opportunity to use their knowledge and take up new challenges on members’ keel boats. 

Last weekend’s Audi Sydney Harbour Regatta provided a place for almost every advance squad sailor as well as many from the development match racing squad. YSA sailors were out on Mumm 30s, Etchells and D Marina was a sea of Youth Academy faces crewing on Sydney 38s. 

The youth sailors have also used the summer to participate in the Mount Gay Monday and St Arnou Wednesday twilight series, the recent Australian Farr 40 Sprint Series and the Farr 40 Nationals.

With the Academy sailors being given the opportunity to try out for different keel boats, many have established connections with members for the upcoming Audi Winter Series and ongoing bluewater offshore races. – Pam Scrivenor
