Walker makes Hardy Cup finals

The CYCA’s Evan Walker and crew have secured their Hardy Cup finals berth after winning five races today on Sydney Harbour during a sail-off between the top six teams.

Three wins came before racing was postponed, due to today’s strong southerly winds and subsequent sail damage, and two wins ensued once racing recommenced, putting Walker in the enviable position of being the highest ranked skipper heading into tomorrow’s finals.

“The depth of the sailing experience of helmsperson Evan Walker and crew Kyle Langford and Will Ryan showed through in the strong breezes today as they pulled away from opponents, especially on the downwind legs,” said YSA coach/manager Jenni Bonnitcha this afternoon.

“Kyle and Evan were Australian reps in 2007 at the ISAF World Champs in Cascis and Will Ryan has recently returned from finishing second in the 29er Worlds in Melbourne.

“Evan, Will and Kyle have been joined by young Oliver Hartas, a recruit from the CYCA talented sailor squad. This is Oliver’s first exposure to match racing and the myriad of boat manoeuvrers involved. He has fitted in well and today had the ride of his life as the RSYS Elliott 6 surfed downwind in 25knots”.
