With the retirement of our longtime Race Officer, Richard Grubb, and some of the race management team, the Sailing Committee is seeking interest from members who would like to join the team of volunteer race managers.

This involves manning our committee vessel MV OFFSHORE for the start and finish of CYCA races, mostly Saturdays in Summer and Sundays in Winter, and possibly for twilight races on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Duties include checking off starters, timing finishers, flag and sound signals and relaying finish times to the sailing office. New volunteers would be rostered on with experienced team members and training in these areas will be provided.

This would suit those with racing experience who no longer wish to sail in all races but want to remain involved with and contribute to the sport of sailing through race management; and those that just want to get involved in the sport of sailing.

A roster is prepared and teams work on alternate events, and this usually means 6 or 7 Saturdays in Summer, and some weekdays for special regattas such as the Rolex Trophy series. Those who can only spare a few days are welcome as back-up to the regular teams.

Apart from the start teams, volunteers are also required for Mark Laying duties for major events. This involves manning the Mark Laying Boat MV GORDON MARSHALL or the CYCA RIB and working with the driver laying and retrieving marks, and adjusting marks during the course of offshore or harbour regattas. These duties would suit fit agile people who can spare the odd weekend or weekday and wish to become involved in race management. Back-up experienced boat drivers are also needed.
