The Twilight Racing Season begins!

Wednesday evening saw the start of the 2008/09 twilight racing season with the first race of the St Arnou Wednesday Twilight series.

With a 5.30pm start and an early twilight there were only 34 starters, but those that managed to get to the start line were rewarded with a beautiful sunny spring evening and a fresh 15-18 NNE breeze.

Andrew Short’s PWC Shockwave was the easy line honours winner, with the handicap prize in Division A going to Robin & Annette Hawthorn’s Beneteau 47.7 Imagination.

In Division B the first 5 boats home took the wrong course, failing to notice the big new S flag flying prominently on the start boat – we have a brand new set of flags and a new fore-aft flagpole arrangement for greater clarity on MV Offshore – and the handicap winner was Brent Carr’s Francesca.

CYCA Director Howard Piggott won Div C on Brilliant, and the newly reinstated Division D was won by Peter Campbell’s Hornblower, just 1 second ahead of Greg Maughan’s Syonara on corrected time. Full results can be found on the CYCA website.

Rob Skol took on crew liaison duties and placed all 9 would-be crew who turned up looking for a ride – So don’t let a shortage of crew deter you from taking part – there will always be potential crew available and ready to go!

With daylight saving time coming in to effect this weekend, and 6pm starts beginning on 22 October, all the signs are for record fleets this year, with over 100 entries so far and a season running through to April 2009 with the extended daylight savings period.

We look forward to seeing you on the start line! – Roger Wragby
