Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2008 official film broadcast on Sun 1st Feb at 3.30pm, Seven Network

The official film of the 2008 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race will be shown on the Seven Network this Sunday,1 February, at 3.30pm.

The 628 miles from Sydney to Hobart are some of the toughest in ocean racing, and since 1945 racing yachts from all over the world have made the pilgrimage south to test themselves in this offshore classic.

No competitor had ever won line honours four times in a row until last year when Wild Oats XI, the 30 metre speed-machine owned by Bob Oatley and skippered by Mark Richards, made history by taking the title for an unprecedented fourth time while overall winner Bob Steel picked up a second Tattersall’s Cup win with his latest Quest.

But the Rolex Sydney Hobart is not just about big budgets and superstar sailors – one hundred yachts took to the start line in Sydney Harbour on Boxing Day – from the husband and wife team sailing Switzerland’s first-ever entry, to the skipper returning to Tasmania to mark his ancestor’s first landfall two centuries ago.

Spectacular sailing, the human stories behind the drama, all set against the backdrop of some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world.

The Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2008 – Racing Thoroughbreds will be screened at 3.30pm this Sunday on the Seven Network.
