Man Overboard Information Day, CYCA, Sunday 3 December

There is nothing more chilling than to hear the cry “Man Overboard”.

It is the call anyone who sails dreads but how many crews, whether they be racing or cruising, are actually prepared to deal with such a traumatic situation.  Finding the MOB can be extremely hard; getting them back on board may prove even harder.

This was recently demonstrated in an incident overseas when three fit men on a fully crewed yacht reportedly struggled for over 15 minutes to get one of their fellow crew members out of the water and back on board.

This situation would obviously be far more difficult for two-handed cruisers.  What if one of them falls overboard, how can one person get the other back on the boat?

On Sunday, December 3, prior to the running of this year’s Rolex Sydney Hobart, the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia will host a Man Overboard Information Day which will be free to attend and open to all who sail.

On display will be the very best and latest MOB location beacons and MOB recovery equipment.  Doors will open at 10.00am and presentations will commence at 10.30am.

So far the Club has a commitment from the following companies to attend:

Ray Marine – automatic wireless MOB LifeTag
MacIntyre Marine – Sea Marshal Location Beacon
Mobilert – location beacons
Gary Murray – MOSS & Secumar

The Clubs asks that for seating purposes, those intending to attend pre-register with Reception ph. 8292 7800 or email reception@cyca.com.au.  For further information please refer to the Calendar on the CYCA website at www.cyca.com.au
