Presenter Nicolas Lancelin whose ropes are produced at his 4th generation French company ‘Lancelin’ which manufactures hi-tech ropes for the Yachting industry using the latest technology and fibres on the market, gave the talk at the Cruising Committee information night, last Tuesday 24th May.
Lancelin discussed the latest developments and the implications to current yachts, as well as the use of hydraulic test bench to illustrate different rope properties. Justin Mulkearns of MYYACHT and Aron, of Roni Rigging and Racing, accompanied Lancelin on the night to give a variety and extra depth of information.
The evening also consisted of some great practical demonstrations of breaking strains and clutch performance which certainly had the concentration of all in the room and a Q&A where a lot of questions were answered in a very accessible manner.
Cruising Committee member Denis Doyle said ‘I think all left with a greater understanding of the technology and performance of the ropes we rely on each time we go sailing, be it racing or cruising. We look forward to returning to this topic in the future.’
The Cruising Committee’s next information night is on Tuesday 7th June at 6:30pm for the Spirit of Cruising night with guest speaker Rob Starkey; author of Rob’s Passage Planner. For more information and tickets click here.
