CYCA members’ boats win Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron pointscores

Several Cruising Yacht Club of Australia members have achieved top results with their harbour-racing boats in the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron’s summer pointscore season, which ended on Saturday 5 April.

A last race win by just 26 seconds on corrected time enabled John Formosa’s M30 Yandoo to take out the Division 1 2007-2008 Main Series by less than one point.  Yandoo also placed second overall in the Short Series.

In Division 1, Charles Curran’s 60-footer Sydney, with former CYCA Commodore David Kellett as sailing master, finished third overall in both the Summer Series and the IRC Inshore Series.

Peter Campbell’s Bonbridge 27 Hornblower won the Division 4 2008 Summer Series, missing out on the Main Series by just 44 seconds and one point  in Saturday’s final race. Hornblower also placed third in the Royal Edward Yacht Club’s Series, winning six races during the season.

In the Etchells class, Stephen Barlow & Peter Gardner’s Humpback  finished third in the Summer Series and fourth in the Main Series.

Over the weekend, the Etchells class contested a six race series for the Port Jackson Trophy,  the winner being CYCA member Rupert Henry at the helm of No Excuse, with a consistent scorecard of 3-1-3-4-5-3.

Defending champion Roger Hickman, also from the CYCA, finished equal third in the Port Jackson Championship, winning the last race on Sunday with Sun Tzu.

The J24 class also contested a six race series over the weekend with CYCA member Bob Ross sailing Stamped Urgent into second place overall.  Stamped Urgent had equal first on points going into the last race, but was ruled OCS. – Peter Campbell
