CYCA member Guy Stening maintains lead in M30 Worlds

CYCA member Guy Stening and his crew of Optimum have maintained their overall lead in the prestigious M30 World Championships after two days of racing off Newport, Rhode Island.

With 13-14 knots of breeze from the south and heading southwest, Stening, the reigning Australian M 30 Champion, won the first two races and finished 3rd in Race three to take Boat of the Day Honours on day one.

However, on the second day, sailed in 15-17 knots,  Italy’s current Farr 40 World Champion Vincenzo Onorato, skippering Mascalazone Latino fought back with two wins and a 3rd to Stening’s 9th, 1st and 2nd.

After six races,  Optimum is on 17 points (1-1-3-9-1-2) with the Italians on 19 points (3-10-1-1-3-1), then a gap to former M30 and Farr 40 World Champion Jim Richardson, sailing Barking Mad, on 33 points (7-2-6-11-2-5).
