CYCA boats winners in Savills SORC

CYCA boats won four of the six classes at the Savills Short Ocean Racing Club Championship sailed off the Heads over the weekend, including the strong IRC Sydney 38 classes.
 
Close to 100 boats contested the four race regatta, sailed in generally light to moderate breezes.  A dozen entries for the 60th Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race contested the IRC, PHS and Sydney 38 classes.
 
First place overall in the IRC class went to David Mason’s Beneteau 44.7, Prime Time, which won two of the four races. CYCA based Wild Joe, Stephen David’s Reichel/Pugh 60-footer, with Iain Murray on the helm, also won two races and finished second overall.
 
New Zealand super maxi Konica Minolta impressed with three straight seconds after a first race 27trh on corrected time, as well as taking line honours in all four races.
 
In the closely contested Sydney 38 class, Leon Christianakis steered Cydon to victory in three of the four races, while RIchard Perini,  the current World Mumm 30 champion took out the Farr 40 class with Evolution.
 
Perini has his sights set on a unique one-design double by winning the Rolex Farr 40 OD World Championship which the CYCA will host in March next year.
 
The fourth CYCA boat to win its class in the Savills SORC was Geoff Hill’s Strewth,  the David Lyons 49-footer which won two of the four races in the PHS class.   Strewth is also an entrant in the Rolex Sydney Hobart Race.
