200th Entry Received For Audi Winter Series 2008

Entry number 200 for the Audi Winter Series 2008 was received at the CYCA Sailing Office this morning, promising the biggest and most successful Audi Winter Series yet.

The 200th entry is St Hillier’s Quest, owned by CYCA member Tim Casey. Quest is the Nelson Marek 46 formerly campaigned successfully by CYCA Member Bob Steel in all major CYCA events, including 1st place overall in the 2002 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

Vice Commodore and Chairman of the Sailing Committee Garry Linacre said “Over the course of the Audi Winter Series, we have been experiencing weekly fleets of 150 boats, and as the weather remains on our side we are positive this figure will grow as the season progresses”.

Winter Series sponsor, German luxury carmaker Audi, says the new record level of entries is a strong message of support from the CYCA members.

“We are breaking records with our vehicles sales year-on-year in Australia, and we’re extremely pleased to see this success story also reflected in sailing. As any competitive sailor knows, records are there to be beaten and we’re pleased to be promoting this spirit at the CYCA in the Audi Winter Series,” Audi’s managing director, Joerg Hofmann said.

As a reminder, to be eligible for the pointscore boats must be block entered for the series before Race 5 this Sunday, and with 4 drops this season there is still time to enter the pointscore – and win!

Casual entries are of course accepted throughout the season.
