With the summer season shortly coming to a close, the Mount Gay Ocean Pointscore is getting to the final stages with only one race left in the series

Saturday saw 17 teams make their way out to Point Piper for the the start of the Lion Island Race. Even though the weather was dark a gloomy, conditions were looking favorable with a 10 knot east-south-easterly breeze across the harbour  while the crews conducted their preparations.

After the 1000hrs start, the front running yachts were sailing out Sydney Heads within 15 minutes and making their way north towards the Lion Island turning mark. With consistent wind up the Sydney coastline the leading yachts were able to make good progress with the first yacht, Quest, returning to the finish line in Rushcutters Bay at 1349hrs. Through the following hours entrants made their way back up Sydney Harbour with the final yacht, Crystal Cutter II, crossing the line at 1643hrs.

Divisional winners include Jon Linton’s Llama II in PHS and Bob Steel’s Quest in both IRC Div1 and ORCi.
