Congratulations to CYCA Member Christian Beck and his crew on InfoTrack GO, which finished third in the MC38 2022 Australian Championship.
Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron hosted the series finale from 4-6 November and five of the nine boats were skippered by CYCA Members: Ginger (Leslie Green), InfoTrack (Indy Beck), InfoTrack GO, Hooligan (Marcus Blackmore) and Thor (Matthew Hanning).
It was a picture-perfect weekend on Sydney Harbour, with 8-13 knots of ENE breeze and sunshine for the 11-race regatta (no drops).
Shaun Lane and Quentin Stewart’s Lazy Dog wrapped up a third successive national title with a race to spare.
The battle for second came down to the final race, with InfoTrack GO, InfoTrack and Swish chasing silver in the final two-lap race, from Taylors Bay up to a top gate adjacent to Watsons Bay on the eastern shoreline.
Steven Proud’s Swish finished third to jump ahead of InfoTrack GO into second overall.
Leslie Green’s Ginger finished strongly with back-to-back bullets to finish fourth, just one point behind InfoTrack GO.
Indy Beck, a YSA Junior, steered InfoTrack to fifth place, ahead of Hooligan and Thor.
“We had good teamwork by the end of what is our fifth class nationals,” Lane told the MC38 Class Association.
“There was a good mix of results this season. What we did well was claw back from nowhere. Every race and every place counts in this fleet. The class is in great shape; there’s nothing in the country like what we have built.”
