Cole Tapper and Will Sargent finished fifth and sixth respectively at the 2022 Governor’s Cup in California.
The two CYCA teams (Cole, Finn Tapper, George Richardson; and Will, Jack Littlechild, Nathan Gulliksen) missed out on a place in the semi-finals by three points, finishing with an identical record of 11-11 after the double round robin.
That meant they faced off in a 5th v 6th match.
Cole was in pole position after the opening race, with Will receiving a damage penalty.
But Will recovered well, winning races 2 and 3 to draw level at 1-1 and force a decisive fourth race.
Cole took the final win to wrap up fifth spot, leaving Will and co. in sixth.
Well done to both teams on representing the CYCA proudly on the international stage.
Kiwi Jordan Stevenson won the Governor’s Cup, beating world champion Jeffrey Petersen (USA) in the final.
