2021 International Women’s Day celebrated

The Club was once again bustling this morning for International Women’s Day 2021, the first major event at the Club since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a day of inspiration and celebration which started with the Pathways through Sailing breakfast.

A capacity crowd of 90 women, men, girls and boys were treated today at the Club’s International Women’s Day Pathways through Sailing breakfast, enjoying a delicious spread while listening to some of the most inspirational people in our sport.

A panel consisting of the first woman to ever win an around the world yacht race, Wendy Tuck; record-breaking Australian Olympic Coach and enabler of women in sailing, Mike Fletcher; CYCA CEO and international authority in sailing administration, Justine Kirkjian; and World Youth Match Racing Champion and blue water navigator, Jess Grimes were joined by CYCA Treasurer Janey Treleaven as MC in sharing their stories of challenge and achievement throughout their sporting, professional and family lives.

The theme ‘Pathways through Sailing’ was evident throughout the in-depth (and often hilarious) insights from our panel as attendees heard of how these women had overcome adversity to achieve outstanding success in our sport. All the panellists started from humble beginnings and worked their way through challenges to get where they are today.

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia would like to wish all of our Members and wider sailing community a Happy International Women’s Day, it is great to see so many inspiring women achieving great things in our sport and throughout their day to day lives.
