YSA Update | Two youth teams compete for the Hardy Cup

The CYCA Youth Sailing Academy (YSA) teams will be out racing again this week, this time back at home waters on Sydney Harbour. Following the successful racing at the Warren Jones International Regatta last week, two YSA teams will compete at the highly competitive Hardy Cup hosted by the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron in Kirribilli. The competitors will this week be back racing on the fleet of Elliott 7s in which they sail on throughout the year in their training and racing programs.

The two teams that will be representing the Club are skippered by Finn Tapper and James Hodgson. Tappers team includes George Richardson, Louis Schofield, Jake Liddell and Cole Tapper. Hodgson will be sailing With Harry Hall, Ryan Wilmot and Charlie Gundy.

After the completion of racing on Day 2, Hodgson agreed it was a demanding day on the water and is well-aware more light winds “spinning every direction” will see out the regatta. “The good thing with short course racing is you only need a local breeze. Hopefully we can complete the schedule; we’ll keep it simple and try not to lose our heads over the shifty conditions,” Hodgson added.

At the completion of the round robin series, the two CYCA teams skippered by Hodgson and Tapper were sitting second and third respectively. Heading in to the quarter final stages Hodgson will be matched up against Charlie Welsh and his team from the New York Yacht Club USA, with Tapper facing off against Nick Rozenauers from the host club, Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron.
