YSA – 2024 Interclub Challenge

Created in 2001 as a way to help identify and build youth sailors experience in fleet racing events, the 2024 Interclub Challenge concluded yesterday at the CYCA after a four day regatta series. Contested by the CYCA, Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club, Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club & Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron.

Each Club hosts a stage of this series, which consists of two teams from each Club, participating in a maximum of six races per stage.

Yesterday saw the final six races sailed on a wet and windy Sydney Harbour as the fleet had to manage the weather and Winter Series competitors on a busy harbour.

‘Boat of the Day’ went to the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, whilst Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron were crowned overall Interclub Challenge winners, having the lowest accumulated Pointscore from their two teams across 24 races.

The CYCA’s Development Match Racing Squad team finished in second position overall, having claimed ‘Boat of the Day’ at both the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron and Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club rounds.

Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club claimed third overall by a single point from last year’s winners Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club.
