The Kellett Shield was donated to the CYCA Youth Sailing Academy (YSA) in 1993 by long time CYCA Member, David Kellett. It has been an ongoing event in the YSA calendar which tests the development of crew work and communication skills for the CYCA Advanced Squad each year.
It is a great opportunity for all the YSA sailors to be able to test the skills which they have leant in the opening weeks of the program in a real race situations, but also in a fun yet competitive environment against their fellow Club sailors.
This year saw six teams take part in the regatta with racing taking place in the vicinity of Clark Island on the edge of Rushcutters Bay. With a light westerly breeze racing was started early with the potential for decreasing breeze across the day.
The team of Finn Tapper, Mitch Evans, Louis Schofield, Nathan McNamara started strong taking the first race win and following it up in the next race with a second place. This put them in first over with a two-point gap back to second place team of India Howard, Emma Harrison, James Pagett, Rachel Bower.
The third race of the day saw a change in the leader board with India Howard and her team taking first place with Finn Tapper and crew scoring their worst race of the day coming in sixth place.
With the characteristic winter weather, the warming day meant the westerly breeze softened until it was too light to race with India Howard, Emma Harrison, James Pagett, Rachel Bower being crowned winners.
