Young talent celebrated at YSA Presentation

The Annual Youth Sailing Academy Dinner was held last Friday night to acknowledge the successes of the YSA as a whole in the past year and to further acknowledge some individuals across the various squads who have gone ‘above and beyond‘ in their performance and attitude.

The event was co-hosted by two Members of the Advanced training squad India Howard and Eric Sparkes, with YSA Graduate Kyle Langford, with multiple America’s Cups under his belt, World Championships and most recently having competed in a Volvo Round the World race, the guest speaker. The quality of the young sailors in the room, both male and female, was outstanding and it wouldn’t take much imagination to see one of them up in the next few years as a guest speaker!

Commodore Paul Billingham announced on the night that the inaugural Commodore’s Ball will be held as an annual fund-raising night for the YSA next year.

Prizes were given to one Member of each YSA Squad for outstanding achievement and attitude throughout the season:
Talented Sailor Squad Mark Murray For his willingness to participate, and his ability to constantly ask questions at de-briefings and team meetings. Mark is always eager to find and excel in new roles within the team.
Development Match Racing Chelsea Williams For her eagerness to participate across the DMR program as well as constantly putting her hand up for positions in the Advanced squad.
Advanced Sailor Harry Hall Harry is a new Member who has seamlessly fitted into the team, also achieving first place in the 2018 Gov Cup with teammates Harry Price and Angus Williams. Harry has also competed in plenty of offshore racing with the Club, most notably the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race.
