Winter Series – Race 6

After a week of gloomy and wild weather, many were itching to get back out on the water and make the most of the exciting conditions. However, the conditions which eventuated were not conducive to a race being held.

As crews made their way out to the starting area the weather was putting on a show with clear blue skies and sunshine to warm up the morning. The only aspect which was missing for a perfect race day was wind. The Race Committee once in position made the initial decision to delay the start and be under postponement while all waited for the breeze to fill in. During this time a light north-easterly breeze made its way down the harbour and allowed for the beginning of the pursuit start to take place at around 1300hrs.

During the lengthy starting sequence however, the north-easterly started to fade, dropping below 1 knot at times. With this decreasing trend and the day progressing it was clear that entrants would not be able to complete the shortened course of one lap. With this in mind, the Race Committee decided to abandon the race.

The series will continue next weekend with Race 7.
