Vamos wins One-Pro division at the 2023 J/70 World Championship

83 teams from 15 nations competed at the 2023 Championship hosted by the St Petersburg Yacht Club in Florida last week.

Entries were from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Germany, Great Britain, Mexico, Monaco, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the U.S. It was large fleet one-design racing at its best.

CYCA was represented by two crews – Sam Hayne’s Celestial and Tim Ryan’s Vamos. Both teams have dominated competition in Australia for several years as well as tasting success in both Europe & the U.K.

Whilst Overall victory after the ten races was awarded to Tom Mallindine and Charlie Thompson’s British entry Brutus III, Vamos triumphed in the much-coveted One-Pro division.

Against 13 other boats, Tim Ryan, Krishan Bhogal, Robert Greenhalgh and Jess Grimes put on a masterful and consistent display over the regatta to secure the win over the Turkish & US teams of Eker and Derecho.
