The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia has introduced the Southern Cross Series to its racing calendar in 2025.
This brand-new Series designed with the global sailor in mind has been carefully structured to complement, not conflict with racing circuits in Europe, the Americas and Asia.
This three-race, offshore Series delivers a concentrated burst of high-stakes competition. For those willing to venture to the far side of the globe, the reward is clear – world-class international racing, without compromise.
Race 1 | Cabbage Tree Island Race
The Series launches with a tactical sprint north and back — the 172-nautical mile Cabbage Tree Island Race. An 86-nautical mile dash to Cabbage Tree Island and back to Sydney, this overnight test features shifting breezes, coastal strategy and complex navigation. A long-time favourite among locals, now opens the international Southern Cross Series.
Race 2 | Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race
At 628 nautical miles, it’s the crown jewel of Australian offshore racing and this milestone 80th edition promises to be even more competitive, with a bolstered fleet drawn by the lure of the Southern Cross Series title.
Race 3 | Trans-Tasman Yacht Race
The finale is set to make history. On 27 February 2026, the inaugural Trans-Tasman Yacht Race departs Sydney Harbour in staggered starts over three days This1,270 nautical mile blue water passage from Sydney to Auckland, New Zealand. Finishing off the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, is a symbolic and strategic collaboration between two of the Southern Hemisphere’s most storied Clubs.
