Short Haul Pointscore’s Pittwater weekend

The Short Haul Pointscore enjoyed a northern soiree over the weekend with Saturday’s Sydney to Pittwater Race, followed by Sunday’s Pittwater to Sydney Race home.

The racing also marked the commencement of the Short Haul Passage Pointscore, a five-race series which consists purely of passage racing up and down the Sydney coastline.

Starting 1100hrs in Sydney Harbour, Saturday’s racing enjoyed a consistent 10-15 knot south-south-easterly breeze which made for a nice downhill run the whole way and saw all competitors into port by 1530hrs. By Sunday’s race, the breeze had swung around to a 12-16 knot north-north-easterly, making for another pleasant, and even faster, day’s racing.

Saturday’s PHS victor was Cam Wayland’s Hunky Dory, pipping Serge Jook’s Bellandean by less than a minute for second while Hugh O’Neill’s Indefensible rounded out the podium just eight seconds behind Jook. IRC victory was claimed by Ian Guanaria’s One More No More with Michael Selby’s Cyrene 3 second and Rod Wills’ Great Xpectations third. Both handicap’s podiums were unchanged between the Short Haul Pointscore and Short Haul Passage Pointscore.

For the Short Haul Pointscore race home on Sunday, Rear Commodore David Jacobs and Roy Melick’s First Light claimed PHS victory, followed by Todd Grounds’ Mr Bojangles second and Indefensible third. IRC honours went to One More No More again with Great Xpectations moving to second, bumping Cyrene 3 to third.

The podium changed a little for Sunday’s Short Haul Passage Pointscore race PHS handicap – victory was held by First Light with Indefensible moving to second and Alex Stewart’s Yputakiteup third.

The next Short Haul Pointscore Race will be the David Burke Memorial, 1200hrs Saturday 5 December, good luck to all competitors!
