Short Haul Pointscore – Race 5 & 6

This weekend saw race five and six of the Short Haul Pointscore Series take place over Saturday and Sunday as well as combining to be the first and second race of the Short Haul Passage Series.

With Strong winds of 25-30 knots predicted for Saturday and only lowering slightly for Sunday, the racing only saw five yachts make it out for the weekend’s races.

Saturday’s race saw six yachts start at Point Piper and make their way north out of Sydney Harbour and up the Sydney Coastline to a finish near Palm Beach in Pittwater. First place went to Robert Hunt, Jon Short, Miles Bastick and Greg Gleeson’s Next with George Girdis’ Marloo in second and Robyn Drew’s Yputakiteup in third. During this race, there was one retirement with Ian Guanaria’s One More No More unable to finish the race.

Sunday’s race which was the return trip starting near Barrenjoey Headland and finishing in Watsons Bay saw a slightly more pleasant experience with the yachts being propelled downwind in a similar north-easterly wind of 15-20 knots. First place on the return trip went to Neil Burling’s Baltic Lady followed by Next and Michael Selby’s Cyrene 3. George Girdis’s Marloo retired from the race which put them out of contention for a podium finish two days in a row.
