Sailors with disABILITIES Making Waves Regatta

Sailors with disABILITIES (SWD) is an Australian registered not-for-profit organisation that, through sailing, becomes a catalyst for change in people’s lives. Started in February 1994 for the 50th Sydney Hobart, it was the first time a fully disabled crew had sailed in an ocean race. It was also supposed to be the last but from this event, the not for profit community organisation was formed.

SWD exists to offer life-changing opportunities to children, youth and adults with disabilities and those at a disadvantage to drive a more optimistic outlook for personal growth and improved life outcomes. SWD uses sailing as a tool to build confidence, self-esteem and new relationships – through sailing, people start to forget about what they can’t do and focus on what they can.

The Sailors with disABILITIES Making Waves Rally on Friday 6 March is your opportunity to sail on magnificent Sydney Harbour and enjoy an after-race party here at CYCA, all while raising much-needed funds for Sailors with disABILITIES.

The afternoon comprises of:

  • a packed lunch and drinks for you to have onboard before the race
  • a yacht race around Sydney Harbour, run by CYCA Race Officers
  • food, drinks and entertainment at the after-party event at the Club
  • trophies for the winner of each race division
  • the opportunity to further support the fundraising effort by purchasing tickets in the raffle or Wine Wall
