PIF Charity Regatta a roaring success as Willow takes top honours

In a week of wild weather, a welcome reprieve ensured the annual Sydney PIF Charity Regatta was a success both on and off the water at CYCA.

The Property Industry Foundation attracted more than 400 people to the CYCA for the event, including property industry figures, their clients and some of our Members who generously donated their yachts for the day.

A total of 30 crews – some of which included first-time sailors – were assembled as PIF raised more than $130,000 for the PIF House Program to build homes for homeless youth.

With Roaring 20s the theme, attendees were dressed in flapper dresses and 1920s suits as they enjoyed a vintage luncheon overlooking the water.

After a deluge of rain in the morning and early afternoon, conditions cleared just in time for the fleet to approach the start line, and take part in a good-spirited race.

The Volvo 70 Willow, owned by CYCA Member Jim Cooney, won Division 1 PHS and line honours, finishing just two seconds ahead of Wild Oats X.

The Beneteau Oceanis 51.1 Wilde Rush, crewed by PROBUILD Sydney, took out Division 2, while KONE Engineering’s Swan 65 Eve won Division 3.

A PIF spokesperson said:

“The Sydney Charity Regatta is the first of many events the Foundation is able to host and provide to the industry after a long year of restricted socialising.

“To be able to have such a wonderful group of industry supporters in one place enjoying their time and giving support to at-risk young people is what we are all about.”
