Mount Gay Rum has returned to the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia as the sponsor of the Monday spinnaker twilight series.

“CYCA twilight racing and Mount Gay Rum were once synonymous due to Mount Gay’s long term support of the Wednesday twilight series. We welcome them back to the Club this year as naming rights sponsor of the Monday spinnaker series and we thank them for their support,” says CEO Mark Woolf.

“Maxxium Australia, distributors for Mount Gay Rum, is delighted with the brand’s involvement as the major sponsor of the CYCA’s Monday Twilight Series,” says Maxxium Sales Manager Glen Burrin.

“With a host of great Mount Gay clothing to be won, along with several bottles of our fine drop, it’s shaping up to be a rewarding series for all participants,” he added.

Mount Gay Rum, which dates back as far as 1703, has long enjoyed a first-class reputation amongst sailors, and they are honoured to now be part of the popular Monday Twilight Series as well as the annual Elliott 6 Mount Gay Top Jocks Regatta they have supported for the last two years.

The CYCA’s twilight series kicks off next week with Race 1 of the 18-race St Arnou Wednesday Twilight Series, which is expected to average 100 plus boats each week on Sydney Harbour over summer. This year St. Arnou will offer a limited edition glassware gift pack to each division winner, and arrange a complimentary refreshment for each crewmember on the winning boats.

The Mount Gay Monday Twilight Series will commence on Monday 18 October and run for 17 weeks, concluding on March 7.

“The Monday series has gone from strength to strength over the last couple of years and is continuing to grow in popularity. This year we are expecting 30 plus boats each week and a tough contest for the sought-after Mount Gay prizes,” says Woolf.

He continues: “What makes it exciting and different to other twilight races is the fact it’s a spinnaker race and secondly, the course is unknown until just before the start when the direction of the breeze is ascertained and a course board/flag is displayed”.

Please note: Skippers are advised that significant changes have been made to both the Mount Gay Monday and St Arnou Wednesday Twilight Series courses. Please review each course in the new Summer Program, which is available on the CYCA web site and will be available in printed format shortly.
