National Sailing League

This weekend two CYCA teams competed in the inaugural National Sailing League Oceania held by the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron (RSYS). The event saw 14 youth, women and open teams compete to qualify for a wildcard entry to the Sailing Champions League Final in St Moritz in August.

The three day event saw the teams compete on the CYCA’s fleet of identical Elliott 7 yachts which were being used for the event. The format saw each team compete in a round robin series sailing in five fleet races a day with five teams in each race. At the end of the three day series 45 races had been completed with only two points separating first and second place.

Second overall was the CYCA Open team skippered by Reg Lord with crew Ben Lamb, Murray Jones and Tara Blanc-Ramos. With a strong second and third day of racing, the team were within reach of the top spot but unfortunately were just two points short after winning their final two races.

The CYCA Youth team skippered by Tom Grimes consisting of George Richardson, Jesse Dransfield, Jess Tavener and Jake Liddell finished the series in fourth placing, missing a podium position by merely a single point.

Congratulations to the RSYS Open team skippered by David Chapman for taking out first place with RSYS Youth in third place.
