Mount Gay Ocean Pointscore – Race 6

With sunshine and blue skies, 20 teams ventured out to the start line of the Mount Gay Ocean Pointscore Botany Bay race on Saturday 2 February with hopes of a beautiful sail down the Sydney coastline. It was however not to be as the race committee was forced to abandon the due to all entrants retiring.

With a heavy sea fog engulfing the coast and a fading easterly breeze, progress southward was slow and tricky. By lunchtime 12 yachts had retired with progress too slow to return by the race time limit, followed by another four teams at 5pm.

By the time the last boat retired and the race was abandoned, the furthest two teams had made it around the Port Hacking turning mark and back to Botany Bay. During the race some teams took advantage of the calm weather with the yacht Smuggler spotted relaxing out off Coogee Beach.

At this stage the series scores sit with Ian Short’s Bush Paul Group first in IRC, Julian Farren-Price’s About Time in ORCi and Andy Offord’s Borderline in PHS.
