Mount Gay Ocean Pointscore – Race 2

Race two of the Mount Gay Ocean Pointscore Series led competitors out of Sydney Harbour down past the picturesque eastern Sydney beaches to Botany Bay and then returning to the finish in Rushcutters Bay.

With the race setting of at 1000 hours, competitors made their way out of Sydney Harbour in a dying westerly breeze which was predicted to swing around to the north east and build throughout the day. With 16 yachts embarking on the race, the competition for divisional wins was tight with many regular and previous champions in the mix.

With sunny Sydney conditions the teams made their way down the coast with a typical building seabreeze providing perfect sailing conditions with a fast second half of the race making up for the light start.

With the stronger of the wind really coming in to effect on the second leg back to Sydney Heads, the smaller yachts were able to make the most of the building breeze. Matt Hannings’s Sydney 36 Supernova and Dennis Copper’s Sydney 38 CR Amante both taking out divisional wins ahead of some tough competition.

Divisional winners included; IRC Div1 – Matt Hanning’s Supernova, ORCI-O Div1 – Dennis Cooper’s Amante and PHS Div1 – Kevin Whelan’s Reve.
