Dear Members,
It is my great pleasure to once again welcome you to another year of membership with the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia and in doing so I take the opportunity to sincerely thank you for your continued support of your Club.
What a wonderful 75th anniversary year we’ve had
More than 100 races were sailed with thousands of Members, their family and their friends making the most of our cherished backyard. From the colourful characters of Wednesday Twilights to the 100+ strong fleets of the Winter Series, the exciting Short Haul Pointscore and the inaugural JPK Pacific Two-Handed Pointscore, I hope you enjoyed competing in and spectating our packed-out sailing program.
Our Youth Sailing Academy teams performed spectacularly well, taking home the 2019 Youth Match Racing World Championship. And, as if that wasn’t enough, the trophy returned to CYCA this year with the YSA again triumphant at the 2020 championship.
And how about that Hobart! The 2019 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, the 75th anniversary of the great race, was nothing short of spectacular. Starting with 157 boats vying for position along four lines, teams had beautiful conditions down the coast, some tough patches across the Tasman Sea and of course the fickle Derwent River to contend with. Record numbers of people witnessed the race and Members can be proud that your Club, along with Rolex and our finishing partner the RYCT, continue to deliver one of the best sporting events anywhere in the world.
The year ahead
Looking forward, we will celebrate 75 years of women competing in the Sydney Hobart. In 1946, Jane Tate and Dagmar O’Brien were the first women to ever compete the race – we will honour them, and the hundreds of women who have competed since, throughout this year’s race.
We are also looking forward to bringing Members’ vision for the Club alive as we roll out our Beyond 75 Strategic Plan. Together, we have defined our future direction to be the premier keelboat racing Club in Australia and to offer a sailing program that caters to a broad range of interests and skill levels. Over the coming years, we will deliver this vision for the benefit of all Members.
Membership subscriptions
Each year your Board and Management Team carefully consider the Club’s operations, our future expenditure needs and of course the value proposition of your membership when it comes to setting subscriptions for the next 12 months.
With close to 3,100 Members at the time of writing (a record membership) getting this balance right is important to us all and the Board has approved an average overall increase of circa 4% meaning subscriptions remain well below any comparable Club in Sydney.
We are pleased to announce again this year an early-bird bonus offer to Members who pay their subscription by close of business Tuesday 31 March 2020. Early-bird Members will have $50 or $20 (depending on your category) credited to your house account to spend on food, beverage or merchandise at the Club – please note that any unused credit will expire 31 July 2020.
How to renew
You can renew your membership now via our online Members’ Portal, you can find instructions in the portal as well. You can also renew with the BPay details provided on your statement (which will be sent shortly), over the phone (02) 8292 7800, or in-person with our friendly Reception Team.
