Light wind conditions for David Burke Memorial race

Tactical, light-wind racing was the order of the day for Saturday’s David Burke Memorial race which encompassed the Short Ocean, Short Haul and Combined pointscores.

A fickle, 5-7 knot nor-nor-easterly greeted the teams for the 1200hrs start in Sydney Harbour before slowly swinging to the north-east and building throughout the day to 10-12 knots.

David Walsh’s Elliott 52 Gunshot sailed a great race, claiming the top spot in the Short Ocean Pointscore Division 1 followed by Walter Lewin’s Farr 400 Vento second and Peter Williams’ Xp 44 Erica third. Division 2 went to John Maclurcan’s classic Illingworth & Primrose Morag Bheag, second place to Phil Hersovics’ Sydney 38 Shine On and third to John Amos’ Sydney 38 Utopia.

In the Short Haul Pointscore, it was Ian Guanaria’s Beneteau First 35 One More No More who reigned supreme, with Richard Allen’s Beneteau 40.7 Tea for the Tillerman second and Michael Selby’s X 412 Cyrene 3 third.

Gunshot was again the champion of the Combined Pointscore Division 1, with Division 2 going to Les Goodridge’s X 50 Wax Lyrical, followed by Steve Watson’s J/130 Ragtime second and Utopia third.

The next race for the Short Ocean, Short Haul and Combined pointscores will be the Australia Day Regatta and City of Sydney Cup, 1000hrs Tuesday 26 January 2021.
