Light breeze challenges fleet in Race 3 of CYCA Winter Series

Another strong fleet of 86 boats took on Race 3 of the CYCA Winter Series in light winds on Sydney Harbour.

Just over half of the starters successfully navigated the calm nor’easter, with no finishers in Divisions G and K.

Past Commodore Paul Billingham and Pete McGee continued their perfect start to the series on their Bakewell White Z39 Wild West, winning a third consecutive race in Division J1. Razors Edge (Ray Stone) clinched back-to-back second places, while Holy Cow (John Clinton) was third.

Thirlmere (Mike Logan) won the Sydney 38 Division to move within one point of overall pointscore leader Advanced Philosophy (Peter Sorensen) who finished in second.

Gordon Ketelbey’s TP52 Zen claimed her first win of the series in Division A1, followed by Smuggler (Seb Bohm) and Another Duchess (David Fuller), who sits atop the overall pointscore standings.

Commodore Noel Cornish made it three pointscore wins from as many races on his Farr 40 Indi, the only boat in Division A2 to finish the course.

Matt Wilkinson skippered Foreign Affair to victory in Division B, from the casual entrant Bandit (Alex Dawson). Clewless (Guy Irwin) was third to maintain her advantage in the overall pointscore, while Sagacious V (David Hundt) took three points.

An exciting battle is emerging between One More No More (Ian Guanaria) and Whistling Kite (Kym Evans) in Division D. They share top spot in the overall standings after One More No More pipped Whistling Kite to the line for a second consecutive race. Calypso Magic (Jeff Mercer) was third.

David Ingram’s Roger That joins Speedwell at the top of the overall pointscore in Division E after her Race 3 win, holding off Jupiter (Ian Smith) and Krakatoa (Don Young).

Peter White’s Hanse 505 First Light claimed Division F honours for the first time this series, beating Reve (Kevin Whelan) and Windhover (Andrew Silk) to the line.

In Division J1, there was a third successive podium finish for race winner Outlaw (Alan and Tom Quick), with Vamp (Donald Graham) second and Jason King also making it a hat-trick of podiums for SOLyMAR.

Race 4 will be held on Sunday 22 May. ENTER NOW.
