CYCA Past Commodore and Life Member Matt Allen guided his TP52 Ichi Ban to both IRC and ORC Division 1 honours at Sail Port Stephens 2021, with some dominant racing on the final day.
Ichi Ban won four of the six races across the week, including the final two of the regatta, to hold off the challenge of CYCA Director Sam Haynes’ Celestial and CYCA Member Seb Bohm’s Smuggler, who finished second and third respectively.
CYCA Director David Griffith’s Whisper finished fourth in IRC Division 1.
Allen is pleased with Ichi Ban’s progress heading into the opening race of the Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore.
“It was another good day’s racing out there, and everything worked out well,” he told Sail Port Stephens. “It was a good test of boat speed and tactics.
“We wanted to hit our straps this weekend. We have one more regatta in Newcastle next weekend and that’s it until the Gold Coast Race, so it was nice to get the mojo back and get the boat into top gear.”
CYCA Member Ray Roberts’ Checkmate of Hollywood was fifth in IRC Division 2 and fourth in ORC Division 2, while CYCA Member Peter Franki’s Salt Shaker finished third in ORC Division 3.
