Ian Hicks and Michael Hocking recognised on Queen’s Birthday Honours List

CYCA Member Ian Hicks and Rolex Sydney Hobart stalwart Michael Hocking have been respectively recognised with an Officer (AO) and Medal (OAM) in the Order of Australia at this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Ian received the honour for distinguished service to the community through philanthropic support for the arts, education and social welfare bodies. Ian’s philanthropic work includes Chair, George Hicks Foundation; Director, Mornington Peninsula Foundation; Supporter, National Gallery of Victoria; President, MS Australia; and also establishing an Endowment Fund at the Australian Ballet.

Ian has been a Member of CYCA since 2012 and has regularly sailed his boat, Concerto, on the harbour over the years.

Michael received his honour for service to sailing, significantly through his work with The Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania (RYCT) and the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. Michael, a Life Member of the RYCT, has been the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, Hobart Dockmaster since 1994, a member of the RYCT’s Sailing Committee and Sailing Operations Sub-Committee since 1983, among many other accolades.
